Can a folding electric wheelchair be boarded?

Can I bring a wheelchair on the plane? Citizens with walking disabilities must apply for relevant certificates in advance if they want to take a wheelchair on the plane, otherwise they cannot board the plane. In the future, airlines will strictly enforce this regulation. There has always been a requirement for passengers using wheelchairs to carry certificates for check-in, but it was not strictly enforced in the past. Recently, airlines have issued strict enforcement notices.

Many peoples who has physical disabilities want to fly, but they don't know whether wheelchairs can get on the plane. Now let me introduce you.
There are no seats for the disabled on the plane, and disabled passengers cannot board the plane in their own wheelchairs.
Passengers in wheelchairs must apply when buying tickets. When changing boarding passes, someone will use an aviation-specific wheelchair (the shape is suitable for use on board, and it has a fixed device and a seat belt for flight). Passengers’ wheelchairs, and passenger’s wheelchairs must be checked in for free; there is a special wheelchair access during the security check.
After boarding the plane, there is a special place for wheelchairs to park, and the wheelchair can be fixed here.
It should be noted that when persons with disabilities with flight conditions require the airline to provide facilities or services such as medical oxygen for use on the plane, consignment of electric wheelchairs, special narrow wheelchairs on board, etc., they should be mentioned at the time of booking, and no later than 72 hours before flight departure.
Therefore, people with disabilities need to pay attention to the flight, and consult with the airline as early as possible before booking a ticket, so that the airline can coordinate and prepare. Disabled persons should arrive at the airport more than 3 hours in advance on the day of flight, so as to have more time for boarding pass, baggage check, security check, and boarding. At the same time, they can respond calmly in special circumstances such as flight schedule changes.

If you need to bring a wheelchair, you need to check in:
1) Transportation of manual wheelchairs
a. Manual wheelchairs should be transported as checked baggage.
b. Wheelchairs used by sick and disabled passengers can be transported free of charge and are not included in the free baggage allowance.
c. Passengers who use their own wheelchairs during boarding (such as group wheelchair passengers) who have been approved and arranged in advance, their wheelchairs should be delivered at the boarding gate when the passengers board the aircraft.
2) Transportation of electric wheelchairs
a. Electric wheelchairs should be transported as checked baggage.
b. Electric wheelchairs used by sick and disabled passengers can be transported for free and are not included in the free baggage allowance.
c. When the electric wheelchair is checked in, its packaging must meet the following requirements:
(1) For wheelchairs equipped with leak-proof batteries, the two poles of the battery must be able to prevent short circuit and the battery must be firmly installed on the wheelchair.
(2) Wheelchairs equipped with non-leak-proof batteries must remove the batteries. Wheelchairs can be transported as unrestricted checked baggage, and the unloaded batteries must be transported in the following sturdy hard packaging: these packaging must be tight and leak-proof, can prevent battery fluid leakage, and be secured by appropriate means, such as using strapping , Fixing clips or brackets to fix it on the pallet or in the cargo hold (no support for cargo or luggage).
The battery must be protected from short circuit, and be fixed in the package upright, and filled with suitable absorbent material around, so that it can absorb all the liquid leaking from the battery.
These packages must be marked "battery, wet, wheelchair" ("wheelchair battery, wet") or "battery, wet, with mobility aid" ("mobility tool battery, wet"). And affix the "corrosive" ("corrosive") label and the package upward label.

The difference between domestic and international wheelchair services

domestic flight
To get to the information desk of the airport airline, you need to fill out a wheelchair application form. Take the form to get the boarding pass, give the form to the service staff, they will mark on your flight, the flight requires a wheelchair.
Then you wait for the service staff to push you to the boarding gate and wait for boarding. When boarding begins, there will also be someone who will push you on the plane.
After getting off the plane, if there is a connecting bridge, the wheelchair will generally be waiting for you at the exit door. If you are walking up the stairs, you need to go down the stairs yourself. Once you get to the airport, you will have a wheelchair. This process has always been accompanied by someone.

international flight
Since international airlines generally do not have a dedicated information desk, they can directly say that they need wheelchair services when receiving the boarding pass. Generally, the service of international airlines is very attentive. When you are still in line to collect your boarding pass, they will push you a wheelchair and ask if you need wheelchair service. And they will push you through various security checks, which is very convenient.
When you receive your boarding pass, you can ask to be placed in the first row next to the aisle. Generally, the first row is relatively large, which can help you straighten your feet. Or ask you to be placed close to the toilet, so that it is more convenient to move on the plane. In airplanes, crutches are generally kept in front of the airplane, and there is no way to get them during the flight.

Process of flying in a wheelchair
1. At the information desk or service staff, ask which counter the special passenger will board at. There are special counters for this kind of formalities, which can avoid long queues.

2. When applying for a boarding pass, the seat position can be negotiated. You can ask to be forward, close to the bathroom, close to the aisle or close to the window. It is usually adjusted, but it is more difficult if it comes late. But now you can select seats online. After you place an order on the website, pay attention to whether there is such a reminder.

3. The normal procedure is: apply for a wheelchair when applying for a boarding pass. There are two types of wheelchairs, ordinary wheelchairs and in-flight wheelchairs. After you get your boarding pass, you will know when the staff will pick you up. Just wait nearby. If there are more people in wheelchairs, pay more attention. It can be reminded that no wheelchair in the cabin is needed, so that the staff will save some trouble. The staff is handled in accordance with the list, and the handover of personnel is more frequent, so more communication is required to ensure efficiency. I have seen cases where the staff list does not correspond to the passengers. In fact, a lot of words and time are wasted.

4. However, it is also possible to apply for consignment at the cabin door. If possible, the staff does not need to push the airport wheelchair, and directly uses our own wheelchair to take us to the cabin door. Reminder: The checked baggage needs to be packed, and there is a packing fee. We can bring some ropes (I brought a few long shoelaces), tie the wheelchair by ourselves, and the person who picks you up can send it directly to check it. Hehe.

5. After passing the security check, we will wait for a staff member to take us to board the plane at a designated place. If it is a remote seat, you can apply for a lift when you apply for a boarding pass, but that is cumbersome, time-consuming, and may cause delays. The Capital Airport seems to have two lifts, but we do not seem to have them. When boarding the plane, communicate well in advance with the person sending the plane to avoid collisions and other situations.

6. During the flight, if you feel unwell, you can negotiate with the flight attendants. One is to give the other party time to prepare, and the other is to relieve tension. Don't leave it alone. For example: You can have more cushions or pillows to cushion your waist.

7. Always wear seat belts during flight. When getting off the plane, be aware that when others take luggage from their heads, things will suddenly drop or bump.

8. Wheelchairs are generally taken separately from ordinary luggage, or mixed. The wheelchairs provided by the airport are not necessarily safe and secure. It is best to check before using them.

9. After the staff pick up, remember to thank them, because they are really hard. This kind of physical work does not distinguish between men and women. I have learned that many girls have to push heavy wheelchairs. Sometimes they have to push dozens of times a day. Large airports like the Capital Airport and Pudong Airport are tired after two trips. It was really hard to get into the wheelchair several times (and listen to complaints occasionally). And their salary is not high.

Tips: After communicating with the staff at the airport or station, they can take you to take a taxi. Generally, there is no need to queue. But please use it with caution, this is not a normal operation. We travel with wheelchairs, which is indeed very troublesome and cumbersome. Now the airport treats wheelchairs as valuables, and damage is rare. The staff also have special training, so you can communicate with the staff who will receive you in order to complete this journey without worry.
